Stuart Brown

Clinical Lead Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified from Bristol University in 1993. For 30 years, I was a partner in a mixed practice in Uttoxeter, where I managed much of the day-to-day running of the practice. During this time, I earned the BSAVA Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. In 2020, I joined East Midlands Referrals where I am now clinical lead.
I have a particular interest in neurology, neurosurgery and cruciate surgery. I am an active member of both the British Veterinary Orthopaedic Association (BVOA) and the British Veterinary Neurology Society (BVNS).

I joined East Midlands Referrals at the start of 2024 and I have been made to feel very welcome here.
I enjoy all aspects of surgery including soft tissue, orthopaedics, minimally invasive procedures and oncologic surgery.

Olivia

I became a Registered Veterinary Nurse after qualifying from the FdSc Veterinary Nursing course at Nottingham Trent University in 2021. I enjoy all aspects of veterinary nursing, but I have a particular passion for surgical nursing and anaesthesia. Outside of work, I own a 12-year-old Chihuahua who is full of personality, which is why Chihuahuas are my favourite breed! I enjoy socialising with friends, spending time with family, playing netball and running.
Elizabeth

Veterinary Nurse
RVN
I am a Registered Veterinary Nurse with over 15 years of experience working with cats and dogs. I was raised in Los Angeles and moved to the United Kingdom in early 2009. It was at that point that I discovered my passion for working with animals. I live in Nottingham with my husband Sheldon, our cat, Hugo and dog, Dot, both of whom were acquired as rescue animals from EMR. Outside of work I enjoy cooking, playing tennis, going to the gym and world travel.

Alex
Veterinary Nurse
RVN
I started working as a Veterinary Assistant in 2016. I have two dogs, Nelly and Roscoe. I enjoy working at EMR because every day brings new challenges and interesting cases. Outside of work I love spending time with family and friends, walking my dogs, and enjoying Mexican food. My goal is to continue learning and making a positive impact on animals’ lives.
Emily

I qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2017 and I recently joined EMR at the end of 2024. I have a diploma in exotic nursing and have an interest in imaging, lab work and feline medicine. In my spare time I volunteer for Derbyshire bat group as a bat carer and Feline and Wildlife Rescue Nottingham as a cat fosterer and wildlife rehabber. I enjoy reading, gaming and photography. At home I have a corn snake, a crested gecko and a jumping spider – and my fiancé, Aiden, who has well and truly embraced the constant stream of weird and wonderful animals that I bring home.

Night Team
I've been in practice since 2018, but as I completed a degree in Animal Behaviour and Welfare I've been working with animals in some form or other since 2011. I realised I wanted to become a veterinary nurse when I got my own dog and saw the care she received and thought I want to do that for other people's pets. I now have two dogs, Mouse (rescued from South Africa) and Bruno, and two cats, Scampi and Peach (who I hand reared from 2 weeks old along with their brothers who I still visit).
My favourite part of working in the veterinary industry is making your pets feel as happy and comfortable as possible when they are in an unusual and unknown environment.
Shauna
Student Veterinary Nurse
I’ve been working at EMR since 2020. I'm an avid book lover with a passion for animals. I rescued a Labrador named Ronald from Ukraine in 2021 and he's been my loyal companion ever since. During the pandemic, I hand-reared three pet sheep, Finley, Marley, and Quinn, and I've even trained llamas!
Juan

Student Veterinary Nurse
My name is Juan, and I am currently in my third year of studying Veterinary Nursing, a journey that has been both challenging and rewarding. Since July 2024, I have been proud to be a part of the EMR team, where I have gained invaluable hands-on experience in the field. From a young age, I have harboured a deep passion for animals, with a particular fascination for reptiles. This passion has driven me to excel in my studies and to seek out opportunities that allow me to work closely with a diverse range of animals.
Working at EMR has allowed me to develop a wide array of skills, from assisting in medical procedures to providing compassionate care to our animal patients. Each day brings new learning experiences, and I have grown not only as a professional but also as an individual.

Kelly

Practice Manager
RVN
I am excited to have recently transitioned into the role of Practice Manager, bringing with me over a decade of experience in veterinary care. My journey began in 2011 as a Student Veterinary Nurse (SVN), qualifying as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) in 2014 and since then, I have had the privilege of working in various nursing roles, each of which has helped me grow both professionally and personally.
I spent some time as Deputy Head Nurse before being promoted to Head Nurse, where I was responsible for managing a fantastic team, overseeing patient care, and ensuring our clinic maintained the highest standards. In my time as Head Nurse, I developed a deep understanding of the importance of leadership, communication, and teamwork in creating a positive and efficient environment.
As I step into my new role as Practice Manager, I am excited to use my experience to help streamline our processes and continue improving the services we offer to both our clients and their beloved pets. My background in clinical care gives me a unique perspective, and I am committed to supporting both our team and our clients in any way I can.
I am excited to help our practice grow, ensuring that we continue providing exceptional care whilst always being there for our patients, clients, and colleagues.

I studied Animal Care at college and gained experience volunteering at Buckley House Vets in 2014. Growing up with rescued animals inspired me to join the veterinary industry. I currently have 5 cats, turtles and fish! My favourite cat breeds are Ragdoll and Sphynx. At EMR I enjoy assisting clients before, during and after their visits. In my spare time, I rescue and rehome abandoned cats, go fishing, and spend weekends with my family and sister. My future goal is to open my own cat rescue cattery. I’m also qualified as a Nursery Nurse with experience in autism awareness and safeguarding.

I love large breed dogs like Newfoundland's and Great Dane’s. Outside of work I enjoy horse riding. My goal is to become a qualified veterinary nurse!

Inspired by my love for animals, I joined EMR in 2022. I love being able to help animals in need. I have rescued three dogs and currently have a rescue dog called Gatsby. Outside of work, I love taking Gatsby on walks and spending time outdoors. My goal is to continue learning and growing in my career, hopefully starting my veterinary nurse training in the future.

I have a big heart for animals, this has been the case for as long as I can remember since growing up with our family dogs Patch and Jack and even though they have since passed my love for animals has not. Currently I live with my girlfriend and her calico cat Lulu who we both adore. I love seeing all the friendly faces of dogs and cats that walk into the clinic and my favourite part is putting their owners mind at ease knowing their pet is going to be ok with the service we provide here at East Midlands Referrals. I love making things, be it board games, tabletop miniatures or coding my latest computer game. My ambitions are to learn as much as I can about the IT systems used at Medivet so I may further my career down that path and hopefully to one day release a computer game that everyone can enjoy.
